Finding the weekday for any date

Every calendar date corresponds to exactly one of the seven weekdays, and this tool works it out from the year, month, and day using standard calendar arithmetic. It automatically accounts for leap years, so a date like February 29 is handled correctly. It is a fast way to answer questions such as which day you were born or what weekday a future deadline lands on.

A note on old dates

The result assumes the Gregorian calendar, the system most of the world uses today. That calendar was adopted at different times in different countries, starting in 1582, and earlier dates were often recorded using the older Julian calendar. For historical events before a country's switch, the weekday you get here can differ from what contemporary records show, because the two calendars had drifted several days apart. For counting the span between two dates, see our related date tools.

Where it's used

  • Finding out which weekday you were born on
  • Checking which day a future deadline or event falls on
  • Planning recurring meetings that must land on a weekday
  • Settling 'what day was that date?' questions
  • Verifying the weekday of a historical date

Real-world examples

  • 1 January 2026 falls on a Thursday
  • 1 January 2000 was a Saturday
  • Picking your birth date reveals its weekday, with leap years handled automatically

Did you know?

Because the Gregorian calendar repeats exactly every 400 years, the 13th of the month falls on a Friday slightly more often than on any other weekday, 688 times per cycle, which is why Friday the 13th feels so common.

FAQ

Does it depend on my time zone?

No — it reads the calendar date you pick in UTC, so the weekday is the same wherever you are.
