Word Count & Reading Time for Writers
Whether it’s an essay, a tweet or an SEO meta description, length matters. Here’s how counts work and how to estimate reading time.
Words vs characters
Some limits are by words (essays, articles), others by characters (tweets, SMS, meta tags). A title tag should be ~50–60 characters and a meta description ~150–160 to avoid being cut off in search results.

Estimating reading time
Average adults read about 200–250 words per minute. So a 1,000-word article takes roughly 4–5 minutes. Divide your word count by 225 for a quick estimate.
Tightening your writing
If you’re over a limit, the Word Frequency Counter shows overused words, and Remove Extra Spaces cleans up copy-pasted text. Shorter, clearer sentences usually score better for both readers and SEO.
