Days Until a Date (Countdown)

Count down the days from today to any future date.

Pick a date to see how many days are left until it — perfect for holidays, deadlines, birthdays and launches. It counts from today and updates whenever you reopen it.

Formula / method

days = target date − today (whole calendar days)

Examples

New Year from mid-year
≈ 190 days
A past date
shown as “days ago”

How the countdown is figured

Enter any future calendar date and this tool subtracts today from it to show exactly how many days remain. The count is based on your device's local date, so the number matches the day you are actually living in rather than a server's time zone. Because the calculation runs in the browser and refreshes on load, the figure stays current each time you open the page.

The difference is measured in whole calendar days, correctly accounting for months of different lengths and for leap years, so a date across February will not be off by a day.

Counting choices and typical uses

People use it to track the days until a holiday, a deadline, a wedding, an exam or a product launch. It is a quick way to answer 'how long have I got' without counting squares on a calendar.

Be aware of the off-by-one question: whether you include today or the target day changes the total by one. If you need the gap between two arbitrary dates rather than a countdown from today, or an exact age in years and months, a dedicated date-difference calculator is the better tool.

Where it's used

  • Counting down to a wedding, birthday, or holiday
  • Tracking the days left until a deadline, exam, or product launch
  • Working out how many days until a contract or subscription renews
  • Seeing how far away a trip or event is when planning
  • Checking how many days remain until a due date

Real-world examples

  • A couple counts down the days remaining until their wedding on September 12.
  • A student checks there are 45 days until a final exam and plans a revision schedule.
  • A team sees 90 days left until a product launch and sets milestones from it.

Did you know?

Because of leap years and months of different lengths, the same calendar date can sit a different number of days away from year to year — which is why counting the gap by hand is easy to get wrong.

FAQ

Does it use my local date?
